Learn to Throw a Knife in 50 Seconds
|
For more information: www.weldonowen.com Got a minute? No? How about 50 seconds? Presenting the first installment of our Instant Expert video series, which offers up super-concentrated doses of essential and not-so-essential knowledge. First up is an incredibly "handy" lesson taken from the pages of The Total Outdoorsman Manual on how to throw a knife the right way—just like a seasoned wilderness pro who really knows his way around an ultra-sharp blade. And while a real-life knife-slinger may not appear to dance a little jig of happiness or do a back flip each time he hits his target, trust me: He's doing them on the inside. And now you can, too—with a litttle "instant expertise." Throwing a knife isn't difficult once you learn how to gauge the speed of rotation. Special throwing knives are unsharpened and have metal handles, but with practice--and caution--you can throw a hunting knife. Three tips: Keep your wrist stiff, use the same speed and motion for each throw, and step toward or away form the target until you find the distance where the rotation turns the knife point-first. Experts can accurately gauge up to seven rotations, but start with one and a half. This will result in a point-first direction with about a 4-yard throw. |
